Commencement Ceremony

The Commencement Ceremony will be held on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at 2:00 pm. Weather permitting the ceremony will be outside on the riverbank lawn and seating will begin at 12:30 pm. www.ucwv.edu/map (behind building 2)

Should we experience inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved indoors to the Eddie King Gymnasium. www.ucwv.edu/map (building 5).  Wristbands will be required for entrance and seating in the gymnasium.  Doors will open for seating at 12:30 pm and we ask you be in your seat no later than 1:45 pm.  You may enter the gymnasium from the gym parking lot side if you wish to sit in the upper bleachers area located on the left side of the gym.  If you wish to sit in the upper bleachers area located on the right side of the gym, please enter the gym from the riverside. In addition to handicapped seating, there will be limited seating on the gym floor, and you may gain access to the gym floor by entering on the side between the Clay Tower (building 4).

There will be air conditioned indoor/overflow seating available in the Auditorium www.ucwv.edu/map (located on the 2nd floor of Riggleman Hall building 2) and in the Ballroom www.ucwv.edu/map (located on the third floor of the GSU building 3) with a live video of the ceremony on a projection screen for guests who wish to have air conditioned seating.  Seating in the overflow areas will begin at 12:30 pm and will also require a wristband. 

CEREMONY WRISTBAND (TICKET) INFORMATION

Ceremony wristbands are free of charge.

OUTDOOR CEREMONY 

  • Wristbands are NOT required for the outside seating on the Riverfront lawn.
  • Seating on the Riverbank lawn is first-come, first-served.   
  • Seating for guests with disabilities and one family member will be available in a special section.

INDOOR CEREMONY/INCLEMENT WEATHER 

  • In the event of inclement weather the ceremony will take place inside the Eddie King Gymnasium (www.ucwv.edu/map building 5).  WRISTBANDS will be REQUIRED due to fire regulations that restrict the number of people in the gymnasium.
  •  FOUR wristbands will be allotted to each graduate at rehearsal for the gymnasium seating.  Please note that the wristband allocation is based upon the actual number of students participating in the ceremony, and capacity of the gym.  Unfortunately, we will not be able to provide more than four wristbands per a graduate.  Children who are young to walk will not require a wristband, however, they will be required to sit on the adult’s lap without disturbing other guests.  Strollers, carriers, etc. will not be permitted in the gym. 
  • Seating for guests with disabilities and one family member will be available in a designated section on the gym floor WRISTBAND REQUIRED. 

AIR CONDITIONED/OVERFLOW SEATING (REGARDLESS OF WEATHER) 

  • Overflow/air conditioned seating will be available in the Auditorium (building 2) regardless of the weather and Ballroom (building 3) should we have inclement weather with a large video screen set up.
  • WRISTBANDS will be REQUIRED due to fire regulations that restrict the total number of people in the auditorium and ballroom.
  • FOUR wristbands will be allotted to each graduate at rehearsal for the air conditioned /overflow seating.  Please note that the wristband allocation is based upon the actual number of students participating in the ceremony, and the capacity of the auditorium and ballroom. 

A wristband guarantees admission into the gymnasium, however, it does not guarantee a particular seat.  Upon arrival, guests will be asked to show their wristbands to the ushers to gain entrance.

Guest must have the secured wristband on their wrist to be admitted.  Guest who do not have wristbands will not be admitted.
