To complete the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Athletic Training, each student must achieve a minimum grade of "C" in all athletic training education (ATEP) courses in order to enroll in the next course in the sequence and to be eligible for graduation. In any ATEP course in which the student earns less than a grade of "C," the entire course must be repeated earning a grade of "C" or higher. Students may repeat an Athletic Training course only one time.
Other Minimum Grade Requirements
Students must also achieve a minimum grade of "C" or higher in the following general education and allied field requirements in order to graduate:
- HSCI 402
- HSCI 204
- BIOL 301
- BIOL 302
Five Years for Completion
Students must complete the program within five years (60 months) from the first enrollment in the practicum component of the curriculum. Students who do not comply with this requirement must reapply for admission to the program.
Regular Progress Monitoring
Students are monitored for satisfactory progression at regular intervals for progression to graduation. To be eligible for graduation a student must:
- Achieve a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on all work completed at the University of Charleston
- Complete a minimum of 120 academic credits
- Achieve a minimum grade of "C" in all ATEP and allied field requirements
- Complete 60 "directed observation" clinical hours prior to acceptance into the ATEP
- Complete a minimum of 990 clinical hours, after admission to the program, that are directly supervised by Approved Clinical Instructors
- Complete 75 service points as outlined in the ATEP Student Handbook
- Complete 6 team physician interactions upon admission to the program
- Take and pass written, written simulation, and oral/practical components of the senior comprehensive examination
