The University of Charleston’s women’s basketball team got back on the winning track Saturday, downing visiting WVU Tech 84-54.
Lisa Lee led the Golden Eagles with 23 points and 10 rebounds. All five starters had double-digit scoring efforts for UC (11-1, 3-0 West Virginia Conference).
Mishay Cooley and Brittany Cartwright paced Tech, scoring 12 points apiece. UC held the Golden Bears to 28.6-percent shooting from the floor to take a 35-22 halftime lead.
UC was playing its first game since suffering its first loss of the season, a 54-49 setback against Indiana (Pa.) Tuesday. The Golden Eagles were ranked fifth nationally in the latest Division II women’s poll.
"I think defensively we’re OK," UC coach Sherry Winn said. "We were fortunate to hold them to 33.3-percent shooting for the game. But, I’m still concerned about our offense."
UC shot 31-of-59 from the floor and made 19-of-29 from the foul line.
"On the season, we’re shooting like 46 to 47 percent. There’s nothing wrong with that. We’re pretty awesome statistically, it’s just the feel of the game I’m concerned about."
