
UC's Winn Coach of the Year

Sherry Winn continues to make her mark of the West Virginia Conference long after she starred at the University of Charleston.
The Golden Eagles' head coach received WVC Coach of the Year honors after leading UC to a 24-3 record and a No. 12 national rank.
Winn, who still holds eleven school records as a player at UC, became the first person to win both WVC Coach and Player of the Year (1985 and 1986) honors.
"We feel like everything we do is a team award," said Winn, who is 78-37 in four season with UC. "I wouldn't have gotten it if it wasn't for the great team we had."
Former Capital player Lisa Lee became a two-time first-team All-WVC selection for UC. Lee, who averages 19.6 points per game and eight rebounds, is joined on the all-conference squad by second-team selection Courtney Thomas (14.2 ppg).
UC's Emily Jones (8.3 ppg) was selected to the All-Freshman team.
Fairmont State guard Kristen Gattuso (22.5 ppg) was picked WVC Player of the Year and Concord's Samm Nester (13.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg) earned Freshman of the Year.
WVU Tech junior guard Alison Carney was a first-team selection after averaging 15.3 ppg. Taria Jordan, a 5-foot-6 senior for the Golden Bears was a second-team pick.
West Virginia State's Tiffany Scott was tabbed second-team All-WVC. The junior from Chicago averaged 17.2 ppg.
Seventh-seeded WVU Tech (10-16, 9-9) hosts No. 10 West Virginia State (11-6, 7-11) tonight in the first round of the WVC Tournament at 7:30.
Second-seeded Charleston hosts No. 15 Bluefield State (2-25, 2-16) at the Eddie King Gym at 7:30 p.m
