Sarah Setcavage scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as host Wheeling Jesuit handed the University of Charleston its first West Virginia Conference loss, a 73-69 decision in women’s basketball Monday evening.
The loss dropped the Golden Eagles (22-2 overall, 14-1 WVC) from first to third in the conference behind Wheeling Jesuit (21-2, 13-1) and Glenville State (22-1, 13-1).
Katie Repicky added 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals and Lindsey Piar contributed 14 points, three boards, three assists and three steals for the Cardinals, who held a plus-16 rebounding advantage (47-31).
"Wheeling just outplayed us,’’ said UC coach Sherry Winn. "I haven’t seen us outrebounded like that all season. They shut down our offense all night."
For UC (22-2, 14-1), which shot almost 50 percent (49.2) but missed 10 free throws (6-of-16) and committed 20 turnovers, Lisa Lee netted 16 points on 7-of-13 shooting, but sank just 2-of-10 foul shots.
Rachel Pike was the only other Golden Eagles player in double figures with 15 points. Pike also helped out with four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
