Senior forward Lisa Lee dominated Saturday afternoon, turning in 30 points and 16 rebounds to lead the University of Charleston to a 76-61 West Virginia Conference women’s victory at West Liberty.
"She was phenomenal,’’ said UC assistant coach Lynne Fitzgerald.
Lee, who surpassed 2,000 points for her career, hit 14-of-19 shots and added three steals.
Courtney Thomas added 21 points for the Golden Eagles (12-0, 20-1), the WVC’s top-ranked team. UC also played excellent defense, forcing the Hilltoppers into 17 turnovers and holding them to 36 percent shooting.
"Our defense was really tough,’’ Fitzgerald said. "West Liberty’s a great 3-point shooting team and one of our goals was to shut them down at the 3-point line, and they shot only 27 percent there, so we’re really pleased with that.’’
Lena Kalvans tallied 15 points for West Liberty (15-5, 7-4).
UC plays at home against Fairmont State Thursday and Ohio Valley Saturday.
