No. 7 UC vs. No. 6 Glenville State
January 23, 2006

For the second time in WVIAC history a pair of Top Ten nationally ranked squads will meet in regular season conference play Thursday as No. 7 Charleston travels to No. 6 Glenville State.  The first Top Ten matchup occurred last February as No. 10 Charleston fell on the road 58-66 to No. 7 Fairmont State.  Fairmont's Kristen Gattuso scored a game-high 25 points, while Charleston's Lisa Lee posted a team-high of 21.

Charleston and Glenville State are the two winningest programs in WVIAC history.  Charleston is 317-96 in all-time conference play, while Glenville State is 316-157.  The two schools are currently 1-2 in the conference and regional standings with the first place nod belonging to the Pioneers.  Each team is expected to retain those rankings in this week's regional poll to be released on Wednesday.

Glenville State has won 76 of their past 77 home contests and are currently in possession of a 12 game home win streak.  Glenville is currently 15-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.  Charleston is currently 15-1 and 8-0 in the conference.  The Golden Eagles are currently riding an eight game road win streak.  Their only loss on the season was a 49-54 setback at Eddie King Gym to regionally ranked Indiana (PA) on January 3, which ended a 28-game home win streak.  Since the loss UC has gone on to win six straight, outscoring their opponents by 32.6 points per game.

Glenville State's Denae Dobbins (Sr., C, Glenville, WV) has recorded six double-doubles in her last six games.  Dobbins and Charleston's Lisa Lee (Sr., F, Charleston, WV) were recently named WVIAC Players of the Week for the week of January 17-22.  Dobbins averaged 19.7 points, 17.0 rebounds, and 6.3 blocked shots per game as Glenville State went 3-0 on the week. Lee paced the No. 7 Golden Eagles to three wins with averages of 20.3 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 3.7 steals per game. .

Charleston and Glenville split their two meetings last season.  The Golden Eagles notched a 73-62 home victory back in January 2005 behind Lisa Lee's double-double performance of 30 points and 15 rebounds.  Four other UC players also scored in double-digits:  Courtney Thomas (13), Emily Jones (12), Mandy Ebel (11), and Erica McElroy (11).  Liz Bowers led Glenville State with 24 points, while Denae Dobbins tossed in 20 and Rachel Redick added 11.  Glenville State then returned the favor in the WVIAC Tournament semifinals by handing UC a 42-63 loss.  Casey Taylor and Denae Dobbins each posted double-doubles for the Pioneers.  Charleston's  Lisa Lee was held to only six points.  The stingy Glenville State defense held UC' s potent offense to a mere 29-percent shooting effort from the field.

Glenville State currently owns a 6-1 series record against Charleston dating back to January 2002.
