University of Charleston senior Lisa Lee will add another award to her already overflowing trophy case. The high-scoring forward has been selected as the WVIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Year in a vote of league coaches.
Lee, who needs only 18 points to establish a new career scoring mark in the WVIAC, has led the Golden Eagles to a 25-2 record and a #6 national ranking. The former Capital High standout ranks among the conference's leaders this season in scoring (2nd, 19.1 ppg), rebounding (6th, 7.9 rpg), field goal percentage (2nd, .584)), steals (7th, 2.2 spg), and blocks (8th, 1.0 bpg).
The 6-0 Charleston, WV native has tallied 2133 points during her stellar UC career that includes two appearances on the All-WVIAC first team. Lee was the MVP of last season's NCAA Division II East Region Tournament as she led the Golden Eagles to the school's first-ever Elite Eight. This season, she has posted six double-doubles and has scored in double figures during 26 of 27 contests.
Lee is the first University of Charleston honoree as the WVIAC Player of the Year since current UC head coach Sherry Winn won the second of back-to-back awards in 1986.
