IUP Hands UC Women First Loss of Season

Freshman Staci Heberling led a balanced scoring effort with 11 points as Indiana (Pa.) handed host University of Charleston its first loss of the season, a 54-49 setback Tuesday evening at Eddie King Gym.

Indiana (8-3) forced UC into 23 turnovers while committing only 14. The Indians converted 10-of-12 free throws and the Golden Eagles were just 2-of-2 from the line.

UC held Indiana to 32.3-percent shooting but hit only 37.3 percent of its own shots.

Senior forward Lisa Lee led the Golden Eagles (10-1) with 14 points and nine rebounds before fouling out.

No other UC player scored in double figures.

Senior guard Laura Kinsler contributed nine points, eight rebounds and four assists for UC while junior guard Erica McElroy had eight points, six boards and three assists. Junior forward Rachel Pike pitched in eight points, five rebounds and two steals.

For Indiana, freshman Lizzie Suwala added 10 points and five other players scored at least four points.

The Golden Eagles will play host to West Virginia University Tech at 5:30 p.m. Saturday as the West Virginia Conference schedule gets into full swing.
