Lisa Lee scored 27 points and the University of Charleston clamped down on defense in a 72-55 win against California (Pa.) Saturday at the Shoot for the Cure Classic at Indiana (Pa.) University.

The Golden Eagles (3-0) held the previously unbeaten Vulcans (3-1) to 28 percent shooting (19-of-68) from the field.

"I didn’t like the last two games,’’ said UC coach Sherry Winn, "but this I loved. We’re back. We played an outstanding game defensively and offensively we’re back in our stride.’’

Lee, a former Capital High School standout, added five rebounds and three steals. Rachel Pike chipped in 13 points and five boards and Courtney Thomas had 10 points and eight assists.

UC will face West Chester (Pa.) at 3 p.m. today.
