California (Pa.) held visiting University of Charleston (0-2) to 20 percent shooting in the first half to earn a 66-62 victory in women's basketball Sunday .

"We had a hard time putting the ball in that rim thing,'' Golden Eagles' Coach Sherry Winn said. "It was a combination of things.

"We have some young players and some players changing roles. We had some wide-open shots that we just didn't make.

"We've got a ways to go, but I think we'll be all right.''

Jihan Williams led Charleston with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Elkins High graduate Kayla Smith had 13 points and eight rebounds for California (2-0).

UC hosts Mars Hill at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Eddie King Gym.
