Top seed West Virginia State is the favorite as play opens Friday at the WVIAC Women's Tennis Championship. The Jackets swept through the WVIAC with an 8-0 league mark and own a 15-2 overall record.
The Jackets are led by freshman Anna Baronayte and her 21-1 overall record at #1 singles. WVSU also gets key contributions from sophomores Teddi Russell, Erica Blakley, and Belle, WV native Emily Bowlin. The Jackets face #8 seed Bluefield State (0-9, 0-7) in the first round.
Charleston (7-4, 7-1) holds down the second seed. Junior Bre Moyle handed Baronayte her lone loss of the season earlier this week. Other key Golden Eagles include Neha Rana, Christina Samoilov, and Alexa Kay. UC battles #7 Concord (5-8, 2-6) in their opener.
