Reed Becomes UC's All-Time Winningest Women's Tennis Coach

University of Charleston women’s tennis head coach Shari Reed became the UC’s all-time women’s tennis victories leader with a 7-0 win over Sinclair Community College on March 12, 2006.

 

Reed’s overall record stands at 120-38. This year's team is 19-2 thus far.

 

Larry Cochren, a Golden Eagles Sports Hall of Fame member, had 119 wins as the UC women's coach from 1989-1997.

 

The University of Charleston women’s tennis team won the WVIAC regular season title and WVIAC Tournament championship in the fall 2005 season. By doing so, UC qualified for its fourth NCAA Regional Tournament appearance which will take place May 4-6 2006 at a site to be determined.

 

Under the guidance of Reed, the Golden Eagles have been honored four times as an Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic team.

 

In her eight year coaching reign, all at UC, Reed has coached three players who have been named WVIAC Player of the Year including the 2005 WVIAC Player of the Year, freshman Breanna Moyle.

 

Reed has been named WVIAC Coach of the Year twice, in 2000 and 2005.  

 

As the UC men's coach (1997-01), Reed directed the Golden Eagles to two WVIAC titles (‘97 and ‘00) with an overall record of 63-20.
