UC Narrowly Misses First Place in WVIAC Pre-season Poll
Sept.  5, 2005

Defending conference champion West Liberty State is the narrow favorite for this season's WVIAC women's tennis title.  The Toppers received four of seven first place votes to nudge Charleston by a mere point in balloting conducted among the conference's head coaches.
Shepherd placed third in the voting, followed by West Virginia Wesleyan and ConcordFairmont State, West Virginia State, and Bluefield
State round out the voting.  WVU Tech is not eligible for this season's conference championship and was not included in the poll.

With the core of the squad returning from last season and a solid recruiting class, expectations are high for Coach Shari Reed's Golden Eagles. UC lost only one player from last season's WVIAC Tournament runner-up squad and is led by All-WVIAC sophomores Krista Jacobs (Charleston, W.Va.) and Danielle Warner (Hobe Sound, Fla.).  With the addition of freshman Briana Moyle (Las Vegas, Nev.) and Lindsay Bolar, a sophomore transfer from West Virginia University, the Golden Eagles seem more than capable of making a WVIAC title run during late October.

The conference tournament is slated for October 20-22 in Charleston
as all eight squads meet for a single-elimination team format.
