The University of Charleston women's tennis team received a No. 8 Great Lakes Regional seed for its NCAA Tournament appearance, and it will open play Thursday afternoon against regional host and favorite Northwood (Mich.).
UC (21-2) won the West Virginia Conference championship last fall, the season when the league plays women's tennis. It was the Golden Eagles' first WVC women's tennis title since 1991.
The NCAA conducts its 62-team Division II championship in the spring. The two teams that advance from each regional will head to the 16-team national tournament May 10-13 in Kansas City, Mo.
UC is led by freshman Bre Moyle of Las Vegas. In her first college season, Moyle played No. 1 singles and doubles and was named the WVC player of the year and rookie of the year. Charleston's Shari Reed was also the WVC coach of the year.
