Golden Eagles Sweep UMass Lowell, Franklin Pierce for Title

 

LOWELL, MA (Aug. 26, 2006) – The University of Charleston swept Franklin Pierce, 3-0, and UMass Lowell, 3-0, Saturday afternoon en route to the UMass Lowell Invitational Volleyball Tournament championship at Costello Gymnasium.

With the victories, the Golden Eagles improved to 3-0 to start the year and placed two players on the All-Tournament Team: senior S Sam Meyer (Lebanon, OH) and junior L Roslyn Adams (Fleetwood, PA).

Also named to the All-Tournament Team were senior OH Michelle McConnell (Ontario, Canada) and sophomore MH Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, VA) of Franklin Pierce; junior S Aisha Sealy (Port of Spain, Trinidad) of C.W. Post and freshman OH Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) of UMass Lowell.

Also in Day 2 action, C.W. Post defeated UML, 3-1, to improve to 1-2 while Franklin Pierce defeated C.W. Post, 3-1, to improve to 2-1.

UML slipped to 0-3 and meets Pace (3:00) and Le Moyne (5:00) Friday in the first two rounds of the University of Bridgeport Invitational.

Charleston 3, Franklin Pierce 0 (32-30, 30-28, 30-21)

            Junior Roslyn Adams (Fleetwood, PA) compiled 12 kills and 10 digs to lead the University of Charleston over Franklin Pierce, 3-0, Saturday in the second round.

            Junior OH Rebecca LaBrake (Clifton, VA) added eight kills and nine digs while junior MH Katy Skelley (Canton, OH) also had eight kills. Senior S Sam Meyer (Lebanon, OH) dished out 33 assists.

            Freshman MB Megan Feldmeth (South Pasadena, CA) led the Ravens with nine kills, four digs and two blocks while sophomore S Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, CA) added 14 digs and 26 assists. Sophomore MH Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, VA) chipped in seven kills and four aces while sophomore OH Emily Schultz (Salem, WI) had seven kills and 13 digs.

C.W. Post 3, UMass Lowell 1 (28-30, 30-19, 30-28, 30-24)

            Junior OH Sarah Coufal (Olympia, WA) led the Pioneers with 14 kills while junior OH Jessica Lubeski (Berlin, MD) added 13 kills along with 19 digs and four aces as C.W. Post prevailed over UMass Lowell, 3-1, in the second round.

            Junior S Aisha Sealy (Port of Spain, Trinidad) dished out 47 assists while junior L Dominique Ringold (Elmont, NY) chipped in 11 kills.

            Junior MB Erin Hudd (Melrose, MA) led the River Hawks with 10 kills and five digs while freshman OH Allie Eide (Gresham, OR) and freshman MH Elsa LaGrand (Highlands Ranch, CO) each had nine kills and 14 digs.

            Senior OH Bridget Raley (Arvada, CO) compiled eight kills, 13 digs and four aces while senior S Caitlin Harte (East Rochester, NH) dealt 39 assists.

Charleston 3, UMass Lowell 0 (30-21, 30-22, 30-21)

            Katy Skelley registered 18 kills while Rebecca LaBrake added 11 kills and eight digs as Charleston swept UMass Lowell, 3-0, in the third round. Roslyn Adams added 10 kills and 11 digs for the Golden Eagles.

            Allie Eide led UML with eight kills and 10 digs while Bridget Raley chipped in eight kills and eight digs to lead UML. Caitlin Harte dished out 26 assists while Elsa LaGrand had 10 digs in addition to four kills.

Franklin Pierce 3, C.W. Post 1 (30-15, 30-27, 25-30, 30-27)

Nicole Buchholz led the Ravens with 15 kills and four blocks while freshman OH Caitlynn Parnell (Medina, TX) added eight kills, eight digs and three aces as Franklin Pierce defeated C.W. Post, 3-1.

Karissa Hookstadt compiled 28 assists, 11 digs and four kills for FPC while Emily Schultz added six kills and nine digs. Michelle McConnell totaled 18 digs.

Sarah Coufal led CWP with 14 kills while senior MH Emily Wildermuth (Nelsonville, OH) and Jessica Lubeski each had 11 kills. Aisha Sealy dished out 42 assists while adding eight kills for the Pioneers.
