Warren Wallace Signs to Play Basketball at UC
May 25, 2006

Warren Wallace of Indianapolis, IN has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of Charleston.

Wallace (6-foot-3, 195 pound forward) is a graduate of Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis, winners of back-to-back Indiana 4A state championships in Wallace’s junior and senior years under head coach Jack Keefer. He was one of six eventual D-I signees on that prep squad that also included Greg Oden (Ohio State), Mike Conley (Ohio State), Donald Cloutier (Western Michigan), Brandon McPherson (Valparaiso) and Tyler Morris (Boston University). Wallace averaged 9.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Last season, Wallace was a freshman at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, a NCAA Division I institution that competes as an Independent.

He will be a sophomore at the University of Charleston in 2006-07.

"Warren brings Division I experience and numerous basketball intangibles to our team," said UC head coach Greg White. "Warren played high school basketball with Greg Oden and is used to winning. He will compete for a starting position next year as a sophomore."

"Warren is a basketball warrior," Keefer said. "He plays hard every night and puts a great deal of importance on the defensive end of the court. We always put him on the other teams’ outstanding player and he would make it a long night for that person.

"We started him part of the year and played him as a sixth man part of the year, but his energy coming off the bench would change the tempo and make-up of the game," Keefer added. "But the important thing was his presence on the floor – a tough, tough warrior and competitor. He also knew the offenses and defenses better than anyone on the team and would direct the other players during the game. UC got a good one."
