Ibrahim Marone Signs to Play Basketball at UC
May 30, 2006

Ibrahim Marone of Trotwood, OH has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of Charleston.

Marone (6-foot-6, 250 pound center-forward) is a graduate of Trotwood Madison High School in Trotwood, the Ohio Division I state runners-up last season.

He averaged 13.0 points and 6.0 rebounds per game for the Rams as a senior as Trotwood rolled to a 22-6 record. His many honors include a selection to the First team All-GWOC squad and a District 15 All-Star.

Marone enjoyed a fantastic state tournament scoring a team-high 18 points and puling down 10 rebounds in Trotwood’s semi-final victory over Lancaster, which landed Trotwood a berth in the D-I finals. He also tallied a team-high 18 points in a championship game loss to Canton McKinley.

He will be a freshman at the University of Charleston in 2006-07.

“Ibu is a ‘Bull in a china shop’ type of player,” said UC head coach Greg White of Marone. “He has a tremendous upside. We feel fortunate to have landed him because a number of other outstanding schools wanted him. He improved tremendously during his senior year at Trotwood under Coach Ike Thornton. He is a great young post player.”

Trotwood Madison is also the high school of former UC men’s basketball standout Carl Edwards.

“Ibrahim Marone was a catalyst to our team’s success,” said Thornton. “He was a consistent inside force for us. As the season progressed, he got better with each game. I sincerely feel that he will blossom at the collegiate level. He will make Coach White and the UC fans very happy.”
