Anthony Anderson Signs to Play Basketball at UC
April 26, 2006

CHARLESTON – Anthony “Poolu” Anderson of Vermilion Community College (Ely, MN) has signed a NCAA National Letter of Intent to play basketball at the University of Charleston.

Anderson, a 5-foot-11, 175 pound combo guard is originally from Cleveland, OH and attended Cleveland South High School where he was an All-State pick. He was a NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) Pre-Season All American last season at Vermilion, which competes in the Minnesota Community College Conference. He will be a junior at the University of Charleston in 2006-07.

Anderson averaged 24 points, 7.2 assists, 9.5 rebounds and 4.2 steals per contest per game this season at Vermilion. He connected on 79 percent of his free throws and was 47 percent from the floor.

In a game against Bismarck State (ND) last season, Anderson scored 50 points, hitting 14-of-20 three-pointers and 4-of-6 from inside the arc.

“We are extremely excited to have Anthony join our UC basketball family,” said UC head coach Greg White. “He is an awesome kid and an outstanding playmaker. He brings speed quickness, unique ball-handling ability and obviously shooting and scoring ability.”

Anderson chose Charleston after also considering Winona State – the 2006 Division II National Champions, Lynn University, Johnson C. Smith as well as many Division I schools.

“He is a lockdown defender who will immediately impact our program greatly,” White added. “Obviously our Cleveland ties helped us land him.”

“I can’t wait to continue my basketball career at Charleston,” Anderson said. “During my visit to Charleston I felt I would fit in great with my new teammates and Coach White. We hit it off great. I have a style of play that will excite everyone. My JUCO career has prepared me for the next level and I look forward to being a part of UC basketball for the next couple of years.”
