Anthony Harper led five players in double figures with 17 points and Alderson-Broaddus outmuscled the University of Charleston for its 14th straight win, a 78-54 victory that pitted the top two West Virginia Conference men’s teams Saturday night at Philippi.

Samario Clancy and John Regula each turned in double-doubles for the Battlers (15-2 overall, 9-0 WVC), who held an enormous 55-28 rebounding edge. Clancy finished with 13 points and 14 rebounds while Regula added 10 points and 13 boards.

A-B’s Derrick Bell chipped in 12 points and four assists and Zach Green, a former Scott High School standout, had 10 points and six assists.

The Battlers didn’t waste any time, jumping out to a 17-point (42-25) halftime lead. The Golden Eagles closed the gap a little in the second half, but were still outscored 36-29 despite A-B hitting just 34.4 percent of its shots after halftime.

UC shot just 31.5 percent, including a 2-of-18 effort from 3-point range, and missed 14 free-throw attempts (18-of-32). A-B, which committed 17 turnovers, converted 15-of-20 foul shots and 9-of-25 from long range.

For UC (13-5, 7-2), Richard Hampton netted 13 points and landed eight rebounds and Robert Strickland pitched in 12 points and seven boards. The Golden Eagles’ Marquis Brooks had 10 points and five rebounds.
