Following the exodus of Jayson Gee, Greg White (88-80, 7th season at UC; 254-248, 19th season overall) returned to the University of Charleston in 2003 to assume head coaching responsibilities for the second time.  The Golden Eagles compiled an overall record of 20-10, and 11-7 in the WVIAC last season.  White departed UC in 1995 for the lure of Division I hoops at UCLA.  After serving as assistant coach for a season with the Bruins, he assumed head coaching responsibilities at Marshall University, a position he held for seven years.  While at Marshall, White led the Thundering Herd to the 1997 Southern Conference Northern Division Championship in 1997, which allowed him to claim 1997 Southern Conference Coach of the Year honors.  White brought much success to Marshall and is currently the third winningest coach in MU history.

In his first stint at UC from 1990-1995, White led the Golden Eagles to the 1992 WVIAC Regular Season Championship and district titles.  He was named WVIAC Coach of the Year in 1992, for the Eagles' remarkable season and his superior coaching abilities.  UC followed in 1993 with a WVIAC Tournament Championship.

White graduated from Marshall University with an undergraduate degree in business administration (1982) and a master's degree in sports management (1993).  While completing his undergraduate work, White was a prominent member of the Thundering Herd basketball squad starting all four years and recording 113 consecutive starts.  White also has more collegiate minutes than any other player in Marshall's history, winning numerous honors and awards along the way.  A member of Marshall's 1000 Point Club, as well as the career three-point field goal leader in the Southern Conference, White was named MVP Marshall University from 1979-1981.

White began his coaching career at Marshall University as an assistant coach from 1981-1983.  He landed his first head coaching position at Pikeville College from 1984-1989, before returning to Marshall for a season as an assistant coach.  White then took his second head coaching position and became a part of UC basketball in 1990.

White is more than a coaching presence on the court.  He is an outstanding ball handling clinician that speaks at major basketball camps throughout the United States and Europe.  White is a motivational speaker that is often invited to various corporate, school, and civic events.  A reputation that spans around the globe, Greg White has impacted many lives.  A role model for his collegiate athletes, White teaches basketball with a passion that envelopes life principles.  Team success and the ability to inspire greatness are qualities that transcend sport.  Each month the Golden Eagles perform a community service project because White is adamant about producing quality players as well as enlightened citizens.

"Greg White is a very dynamic person, who is a fierce competitor.  He has remarkable abilities to communicate and lead.  Greg gets everyone with whom he comes into contact excited..."
