
2006 WVIAC Golf Tournament Day Two Results

(BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.VA)-A tight three-way race has developed in both the team and individual competitions at the WVIAC men's golf championship after 36 holes of the 54-hole event. Fairmont State maintains the team advantage after the second round of competition with a 601 total, but West Liberty is within two strokes and Ohio Valley is only four back heading into Wednesday's final round.
The individual medalist's race is knotted as Matt Hicks (West Liberty State), Darcy Donaldson (Concord), and Jon Burnside (Fairmont State) each own one-over totals of 143. Hicks was one of three players on the afternoon to record the low score of even-par 72. Donaldson carded a 74 on Tuesday. Burnside, the leader after 18 holes, finished with a 76.
Fairmont State's William Gautreau holds fourth at 147. Ben Harwood (Ohio Valley), Brandon Reece (Charleston), and J.C. Beecroft (Ohio Valley) are each tied for fifth with matching totals of 148.
Ohio Valley, the East Region's top team, made the day's big move. The Fighting Scots notched the tournament's low team total with a 294 that moved them from seventh to third. Beecroft and Greg Lemenchick each fired even-par 72's, while Harwood shot a 73.
Charleston and Concord are tied for fourth with 613 totals. Wheeling Jesuit rounds out the top six at 614.
The 54-hole event concludes on Wednesday at the 6,827 yard, par-72 Cacapon State Park GC layout. The winner receives an automatic bid into the NCAA East Regional in early May.
