The University of Charleston's men's golf program added a pair of top West Virginia Conference awards one day after claiming the league championship. Golden Eagle senior Michael Todd is the WVIAC Player of the Year, while UC mentor Will Johnson was honored by his peers as the conference's Coach of the Year.
Todd recorded a WVIAC best 71.71 scoring average in the conference's four sanctioned events. He was the individual medalist at the WVIAC Championship and the WVIAC Northern Regional. The Coshocton, Ohio senior also tied for the top spot at the Central Region before falling in a playoff. Five of his dozen rounds in league tournaments broke par, including a pair of three-under par 69's.
Johnson guided UC to a WVIAC championship among three tournament victories so far in the 2006-07 season. The Golden Eagles also triumphed at the WVIAC Northern Regional and Fairmont State Invitational. Charleston is expected to be the top seed at the upcoming NCAA Division II East Regional Tournament.
2005-06 WVIAC Player of the Year Darcy Donaldson of Concord earned first team All-WVIAC for a third straight season. Todd, Brandon Reece (Charleston), and J.C Beecroft (Ohio Valley) are repeat members of the conference's top squad. Fairmont State's Justin Caroli and Tyler Franklin and Concord's John Ritchey make up the remainder of the seven-member first team all-conference.
The second team consists of Kenneth Hess (Concord), Will Gautreau (Fairmont State), Bryan Snow (Shepherd), Greg Lemenchick (Ohio Valley), Jon Burnside (Fairmont State), and Matt McKelvie (Salem International).
Charleston's Korey Pettit and West Liberty State's Scott Smith are honorable mention members of the All-WVIAC squad.
