May 9, 2007

WHEELING - Fairmont State University erased a two shot deficit on the final three holes to capture its first ever 2007 NCAA Division II Men's East Region Golf Championship at Speidel Golf Club. The "Falcons" surpassed both Charleston and Indiana University of PA after a third round score of 293, giving them a three day total of 896.

IUP finished in the second position at 899, followed by the University of Charleston at 906, and Ohio Valley University at 913. Millersville University came home in 5th at 915 one spot ahead of defending champion Concord in 6th with 922.

Fairmont's Will Gautreau and Charleston's Michael Todd tied for the individual crown at 221 each. IUP's Nic Milito and Gavin Smith tied for the 3rd spot just two behind the leaders.

Michael Todd will join Fairmont at the NCAA National Tournament May 22-25th at the Meadows in Allendale, MI, by virtue of being the low individual not on a qualifying team. Todd represented the East/Northeast super region last year as well.
