Williams garners second weekly WVIAC award
University of Charleston senior Mike Williams claimed the WVIAC Special Teams Player of the Week award for his play in the Golden Eagles' 49-28 victory over Glenville State, the conference announced on Sunday, Nov. 11.
Williams returned a punt 40 yards for a touchdown in the win that helped UC finish the regular season with an 8-3 record and a second place finish in the conference.
It marked the second weekly WVIAC award for Williams in 2007. He was also named the WVIAC Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 22 following his performance against W. Va. State in which he had three interceptions two returned for TD's and a third return inside the Yellow Jackets five yard line. He also collected two national awards (CollegeSportsReport and D2Football.com Defensive Player of the Week) for his efforts that week.
Other UC players to garner WVIAC Player of the Week awards in 2007 were Xavier Drakeford (Special Teams 8/25), DeRante Hunter (Offensive 10/13 & 10/20), Chris Rotella (Defensive 8/25) and T.L. Asbury (Defensive 9/29).

Almonzo Banks, West Liberty State, WR, Sr., 6-2, 220, Washington, DC: Banks keyed West Liberty State's record-breaking offensive explosion with 18 receptions good for 292 yards in the Toppers' 70-43 win over Seton Hill...The senior smashed WLSC school single-season records with 88 receptions good for 1331 yards...WLSC's 820 yards of total offense in Saturday's victory establish a new conference single-game record.
