UC CREW FALLS IN SEMIFINALS AT DAD VAIL REGATTA

PHILADELPHIA The University of Charleston women’s crew team finished fifth in the Women’s Varsity Heavyweight Four semi-finals at the Dad Vail Regatta on Saturday.

 

Lafayette and Jacksonville advanced out of the heat to the finals.

 

The University of San Diego went on to win the finals in the Women’s Varsity Heavyweight Four and was awarded the Margaret McNiff Trophy. Penn State finished second while Lafayette and Jacksonville finished third and fourth respectively.

 

UC advanced with a time of 8:08.68 in their heat on Friday to advance to the semi-finals. The Golden Eagels competed in a heat against LaSalle, Lowell, Susquehanna, Robert Morris and first place Ohio State – who also advanced to the semi-finals.

 

The Dad Vail Regatta rowing event is the largest collegiate regatta in the United States, with over 100 colleges and universities from the U.S. and Canada competing. It takes place on the Schuylkill River’s 2,000 meter race course in Philadelphia’s Fairmount Park.

 

Heading into the semifinals, UC was ranked No. 18 among 51 teams in their event.
