UC Admission - Meet Our Students

Meet Our Students: Ashley Rees

Class of 2008
Major: Communications

How do you feel about having chosen UC?
Personally, I could not have chosen a better school for myself. The atmosphere on campus is such a warm and inviting one. Everyone here greets you with a smile, you never feel away from home here at the University of Charleston. The students here definitely know how to have fun. There are always tons of activities going on around campus. If you get bored here, it is because you are not involved.

What are some of the ways you're "Learning Your Way?"
Because of this program, learning is much more interesting and fun. Currently I am interning in the University Relations office here at the school because I have a strong interest in public relations. I have been part of a service learning project through my social science class that allowed me to work with Habitat for Humanity. Also, with the portfolio program, students are able to get general Ed classes out of the way within other classes that are needed within their major. This allows you the opportunity to take more credit hours but not be bogged down with extra work. Also, some classes can be taken online making it easier and quicker to acquire credits.

How are you involved on campus?
I am a member of the Student Ambassadors Association, which is an organization here on campus that assists the admissions office with prospective students. In addition, I am a Welch Colleague Scholarship Recipient, which means I will graduate with a minor in Applied Leadership Studies, and will get to take part in various activities on campus. If you love the small school atmosphere, you like getting personal attention with your professors, and you enjoy a little fun every now and then, the University of Charleston is definitely the place to be.
