UC Admission - Meet Our Students

Meet Our Students: Andrew Orrison

Junior in fall of 2007
Major: Accounting and Finance

How does "Learning Your Way" apply to your education at UC?
You get to choose the classes you want to meet your requirements. Everything is outcome-based; if I need a history course, I can choose from World, American, or Government classes. Also, at the end of my freshman year, I had 57 credit hours, which put me 3 credit hours away from being a junior.

How helpful was your advisor?
My advisor is amazing. She asks me what my goals are, and finds a way to get me there. With the credit hours I have acquired at UC, I have the possibility to graduate early. My advisor is doing everything she can to make this happen. She also helped me locate an internship opportunity over the summer. If I have any questions, she encourages me to call or e-mail her, even on nights and weekends.

What would you tell a high school senior interested in UCWV?
There is no other school like UC. The individual attention and the atmosphere are great. When the university president and dean know you by your first name and encourage you to come into their offices, you realize the personal attention you get here! If you have a problem you are not a number; the faculty and staff genuinely care. It is nearly impossible to fall behind.
