Scholarship Opportunities

Get accepted to the University of Charleston and you could receive significant scholarships for college.

The University of Charleston Office of Financial Aid works with each student individually to put together the very best financial aid package. To be considered for scholarships and financial aid at the University of Charleston, students are required to submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. The scholarships listed below are for undergraduate students only. Scholarships do not apply to gradute programs at the University of Charleston.

Premier Scholarships, 2010–2011

Accepted students must compete at Experience UC Scholarship Days for the following four awards:*

Scholarships Requirements Award Information
Presidential Scholars
  • ACT Score of 28+ (SAT of 1250+)
  • Academic GPA of 3.5+
  • Awarded to a limited number of candidates
  • Must live on campus
  • Tuition and room scholarship.
  • Board is not part of the scholarship offering.
  • This award is not to be combined with other University Scholarships. 
  • Outside scholarships and grants may reduce the University's contribution to the total scholarship award.
Golden Eagle Scholar Award
  • ACT score of 25+ or SAT score  of 1130+
  • Academic GPA of 3.25+
  • Limited number of awards
  • Award level depends on residential status
  • Award amounts vary and begin at $1,000.
  • Scholar Awards may be added to academic scholarships a student may have received.
Welch Colleague Scholarship
  • Academic GPA 3.0
  • Past and/or current community involvement and leadership
  • Awarded to 30 qualifying students
  • Must live on campus
  • Receive 75% Tuition scholarship — amounts to $18,000 for new students in Fall 2010.
  • This award is not to be combined with other University Scholarships.
Leadership & Involvement Scholarship
  • Must be accepted to the University of Charleston 
  • Awards vary, beginning at $500 per year.
  • May be combined with some other awards.

University of Charleston Academic Scholarships – AWARDED UPON ACCEPTANCE TO UC

These awards may be combined with Athletic, Music, Legacy, and Leadership & Involvement Awards.*

Freshman On-Campus
Scholarships (Residents)
  • Based on a product of the student's ACT Composite (or converted SAT score) and High School GPA
  • Awards range from $7,000–$17,000 per year based on eligibility.
Freshman Off-Campus
Scholarships (Commuters)
  • Based on a product of the student's ACT Composite (or converted SAT score) and High School GPA
  • Determined by WV Promise Scholarship Program
Transfer On-Campus Scholarships (Residents)
  • Based on student's transfer college GPA
  • Awards range from $7,500–$14,000 per year if eligible.
Transfer Off-Campus Scholarships (Commuters)
  • Based on student's transfer college GPA
  • Awards range from $7,000–$10,500 per year if eligible.

Legacy Grant
  • Parent graduated from University of Charleston or Morris Harvey College
  • Students/parents must inform the Office of Admissions prior to May 1 if the student is eligible for this award
  • Limited number of awards available
  • $1,000 per year — may be stacked with some awards
Athletic & Cheerleading Scholarships
  • Amount and requirements determined by coach
  • Begin at $500 per year — may be part of Leadership & Involvement Award
Chorus or Pep Band Scholarships
  • Audition process with program director
  • $1,000 per year — may be part of Leadership & Involvement Award

The University is also inclined to make final decisions about combinations of awards. Award levels may change depending on on-campus residential status.
