Requirements for RN Licensure in West Virginia: • Good moral character • High school graduation or equivalent • Completion of basic nursing education program

What is the difference between an ADN and a BSN? Both ADN and BSN graduates must demonstrate the same minimal level of competence by successfully passing the NCLEX-RN® licensing examination to become a Registered Nurse.
The associate degree nurse is educated to demonstrate professional behaviors, including communication and assessment skills, clinical decision-making, caring interventions, collaboration, and management of care for diverse populations in a variety of settings. ________________________________________
Where can graduates of ADN programs work? In West Virginia, graduates may be employed in Intensive Care units, Medical Surgical units, large medical centers, small community hospitals, outpatient settings – just about anywhere. ________________________________________
Will credits from other colleges be accepted? Credits earned from an accredited college are usually accepted at UC. The Department of Nursing reserves the right to decide what transfer credits will be accepted for the nursing program. Students are encouraged to take courses at UC because these courses are designed to compliment the nursing curriculum.

What is the LPN Transition Program? The LPN to ADN Transition Program is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) to receive advanced placement credit for their LPN coursework and complete the ADN program. Can I start with the Associate Degree and then get the baccalaureate degree? A variety of RN to BSN programs are available in colleges and universities regionally and nationally. Is there a student nurse’s organization? The Capito Association of Nursing Students, commonly called CANS is the official student nurse’s organization at UC. ADN and BSN students have opportunities to work together in various social, professional and service oriented activities. Activities include providing parties for children in a local homeless shelter and sponsoring blood drives in conjunction with the American Red Cross. Advantages to membership in CANS: • Eligibility to join the state (WVSNA) and national (NSNA) student nurses associations. • Opportunities to apply for scholarships through NSNA. • Eligibility to attend state and national conferences. • Opportunities to meet and network with other nursing students at UC and from across the US.
