Internships

Internships are a vital part of the Mass Communications Degree Program, and offer valuable on the job training and field experience to the student. The City of Charleston has four Broadcasting Network Affiliates (channels 3, 8, 11 and 13), as well as West Virginia Public Broadcasting, Mountain News Network, several newspapers and radio stations, and several local production companies that provide internship opportunities for UC students. Additional opportunities on campus in the University Relations Office and Communication Resource Center are available. Students are also encouraged to find internships out of the local area; in 2001, Amy Robinson, one of the department's best students, served two internships, at Paramount Studios and Hollywood.com in Los Angeles. |

Students who major in Mass Communications participate in the campus community as well. Examples of this include writing for The Eagle, the campus newspaper, or shooting and editing highlight tapes for the various athletic teams. Four students recently served as paid production assistants for The Weakest Link game show when it auditioned contestants in Charleston. |
