Learn how in UC's Mass Communication program through Academics, Technology, Hands-on Training and Internships.
With our tracks in Journalism, Broadcasting, Digital Media, and Advertising/Public Relations we train you to express yourself in various media, in preparation for a professional career in your chosen area. Courses such as Media Writing, Screenwriting, Intro to Journalism, Intro to Public Relations, Digital Audio and Digital Cinema provide needed foundations.
The Mass Comm program works closely with instructors in other departments to offer you a wide range of choices and experiences with your course work. Creative Writing, Writing for the Electronic Media, Photography, Marketing and Advertising can contribute to your knowledge and abilities. The new Humanities Technology Lab, currently in the planning stage, will house media equipment for various tasks.
You may choose to double-major or minor in English, Art or Business, to increase your chances for success in the job market. There is also a Communication track in both the Environmental Science and Athletic Administration majors.
With guidance for the Center for Career Development, you can obtain career-building internships in various profit and non-profit companies. Recently, Mass Comm majors have had internships at the West Virginia Symphony, the American Cancer Society, the WV Clay Center for the Arts and Sciences, Hollywood.com and Paramount Studios in Los Angeles.
