Education
Program Admission
Prospective majors will take a variety of required courses during their first two years from both liberal arts and the education core. During the third semester or when enrolled in Edu. 299, they must take (and pass) the Praxis I exams in math, writing, and reading. They then may qualify to participate in the Panel admission process where they are interviewed by Arts and Science faculty and public school educators. To be admitted, they must have a 2.5 GPA in their content, professional education core, and overall course work. In addition, they must not have any grade lower than a C. Upon satisfaction of these conditions, students may be admitted to the program.
Admission to Student Teaching
Students must continue to maintain a 2.5 GPA as stipulated above; they must also have taken the Praxis II exams (content and pedagogy) even though passing scores are not required until graduation. In addition, students must complete Education 320, Integrated Methods, and Micro-teaching with at least a "C" in order to be admitted to Student Teaching. They also need to have completed pre-requisite methods courses.
