Sports Medicine Club
Constitution and Bylaws

Article 1: Name
The name of this student organization shall be the Sports Medicine Club.

Article 2: Purpose
The purpose of this organization is to support our student's efforts to enhance their education in sports medicine, community service, and social activities.

Article 3: Members

    • Section 1-active members shall be matriculates of The University of Charleston Sports Medicine Department and must maintain a 2.4 GPA or above as outlined in the Sports Medicine Department handbook.
    • Section 2-annual dues of $10 shall be paid by September 15th of each year.
    • Section 3-membership shall not be denied to any individual on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex, sexual orientation, age, marital status, or disability.


Article 4: Officers

    • Section 1-the officers of the association shall be named: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Senior Representative, Junior Representative, Sophomore Representative, and Freshman Representative. These officers shall perform the duties as prescribed by the constitution and by-laws and by the parliamentary authority as adopted by the organization.
    • Section 2-officers shall be nominated at the first meeting of April with elections held the following meeting. Elections shall be done by secret ballot and candidates receiving the most votes shall be named to their respective office.
    • Section 3-officers shall serve a term of one year.
    • Section 4-vacancies in offices shall be filled by nomination and voting of a quorum of members.
    • Section 5-officers must be full time students at The University of Charleston.
    • Section 6-officers shall not be on disciplinary or academic probation.


Article 5: Meetings

    • Section 1-the regular meetings of the organization will be held on the first Wednesday of each month.
    • Section 2-special meetings may be called by the president of the executive committee and shall be called with at least three days notice.


Article 6: Relationships
The Sports Medicine Club shall have no relationship or be controlled by any other local, state, or national organization.

Article 7: Activities
The organization shall hold regular business meetings with invited topics of interest.

Article 8: Committees

    • Section 1-the executive committee shall include the officers of the organization and shall be considered a standing committee. They shall supervise affairs to the association between its business meetings, make recommendations to the organization and perform other duties as specified by the constitution and by-laws.


Article 9: Advisor
One advisor, affiliated with The University of Charleston Sports Medicine Department, as faculty, staff, or administrator, will be selected to work with the organization.

Article 10: Amendments
The constitution may be amended at any regular meeting of the organization by a two-thirds vote, provided that the amendment was submitted in writing at the previous meeting.

1997-1998 By-Laws

  1. For each hour of involvement in a Sports Medicine Club function the member will receive one Sports Medicine Club point.

  2. Those members with the most Sports Medicine Club points will receive special considerations for sponsorship to National and State conventions and/or meetings.
