Why Major in Art? Majoring in Art enriches aesthetic development by increasing sensitivity of perception, knowledge, and understanding of the visual arts. It also prepares students for a fulfilling vocation or avocation in the arts. Additionally, students learn to express their creative vision in a metaphorical language. |

Why Study Art at UC? Art students experiment with basic concepts and skills in foundation art courses. They specialize in advanced studios at upper levels in: Drawing, Digital Imaging., Photography, Watercolor, Painting, and Printmaking. Students develop personal imagery with exploration of Special Topics and Participate in Liberal Arts courses for studio enhancement. They also receive individual instruction and criticism in an art studio setting. Students will interact with state-of-the-art computing technology for the arts and create an individual interest track with an arts foundation. |
Portfolio Development The program concentrates on portfolio development during the four years at the University of Charleston. Students submit a portfolio of studio work after two years of studio classes at the University. The review is for advancing into junior and senior level studios. The senior art major prepares and hangs a senior exhibition of work in the Frankenberger Art Gallery.
Department of Art and Design Offers
Bachelor of Arts in Art - prepares the graduate to develop and excel with artistic vision and creative expression in a chosen field. The major prepares the graduate to work in business and industry as well as art agencies, as an artist or designer.
