Jeannette Walls - Dow Speaker Series
Author of The Glass Castle, Jeannette Walls, to appear as part of Dow Speaker Series

Jeanette Walls, journalist and author of The Glass Castle, will appear as part of the Dow Speaker Series at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 5, in the Riggleman Hall Auditorium. Walls’ memoir, a sometimes harrowing, sometimes hilarious account of her childhood growing up in the desert of the American Southwest and then in Welch, West Virginia, has been called “spectacular,” and “riveting.” It has been on the New York Times best-seller list for more than 94 weeks.

With her three siblings and the brilliant, unorthodox, irresponsible parents who manage at once to neglect them, love them, and teach them to face their fears, Walls overcomes her hardships and develops the determination to leave West Virginia on her own at the age of 16. She moves to New York City, enrolls in Barnard College and eventually become a well-known columnist for New York magazine and MSNBC.com as well as a television personality.

A Question & Answer session, moderated by Dr. Edwin H. Welch will follow. As always, the Dow Speaker Series is free and open to the public. For more information call 304-357-4717.
