Alaska Conservation Solutions President
to speak at UC on April 10, 2008
Deborah Williams, President of Alaska Conservation Solutions, an organization that is devoted primarily to addressing global warming, will speak at the University of Charleston at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in the Geary Student Union Ballroom (third floor), on the campus of the University of Charleston. She is Alaska’s foremost spokesperson on global warming.

Ms. Williams has been actively involved in conservation and sustainable community issues in Alaska for over 25 years, and is now focusing on global warming. Her speech addresses the alarming consequences already evident in Alaska and the commonalities between Alaska and the rest of the United States. She offers practical carbon-reducing strategies that not only reduce emissions but also protect human health, save money, and increase America’s energy independence.

She received her B.A. from Pomona College, summa cum laude, with a concentration in Biology and Economics. Subsequently she graduated from Harvard Law School, with honors, and was the principal founder of and co-editor-in-chief of the Harvard Environmental Law Review.

Ms. Williams was a Presidential appointee to the Department of the Interior for Alaska affairs and has been funded to speak in several states around the country, often at the request of the Senator in those states. She will be introduced by Allan Tweedle, a University of Michigan engineering graduate (retired) and solar energy expert who is using his time to focus on West Virginia and the opportunities that renewable energy offers to combat and reverse global warming.
