The University of Charleston is proud to announce it will hold its 120th Spring Commencement at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 4, in Eddie King Gymnasium on the University’s campus. There will be 167 students earning degrees.
The Commencement speaker will be the Honorable Irene Berger, Circuit Judge of Kanawha County. "Judge Berger brings an outstanding record of judicial leadership to her role as commencement speaker and is widely acclaimed for her sound judgment and wise judicial decisions," said UC President, Dr. Edwin Welch.
UC’s special guests that day include three individuals who will receive honorary doctoral degrees: Dr. William Hamm, President of the Foundation for Independent Higher Education, Washington, DC; the Honorable Danny Jones, Mayor of the City of Charleston; and Major General Allen E. Tackett, Adjunct General for the West Virginia National Guard. Major General Tackett is an alumnus and a member of the UC’s Gallery of Achievement.
"This year at Commencement, we will recognize Danny Jones, the Mayor of Charleston who has provided more support for the University than any other state or local official; Major General Allen Tackett, a UC alumnus who has established the West Virginia National Guard as one of the very best in the country and who has played a national leadership role in training and preparedness, and Bill Hamm, a national higher education leader who has assisted the University of Charleston in its innovations and growth," Welch said.
A reception for graduates and their families will follow in the Rotunda in Riggleman Hall. For more information call 304-357-4717 or 304-357-4713.
