Political Analyst Bill Kristol to appear at
UC Speaker Series sponsored by Dow Chemical

Bill Kristol, Editor of the influential Washington-based political magazine, The Weekly Standard, will appear at the University of Charleston as part of UC’s Speaker Series sponsored by Dow Chemical at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, in Riggleman Hall’s Geary Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading political analysts and commentators, Mr. Kristol regularly appears on FOX News Sunday and FOX News Channel.  As an advocate for a strong American foreign policy, he has pushed forward the foreign policy debate since September 11th, and continues to drive the conversation as co-author of New York Times bestseller The War Over Iraq.  He edited the well-received anthology The Weekly Standard, A Reader:  1995-2005, and in 2007, he was a regular columnist for TIME magazine. In January 2008, he became a regular Op-Ed page columnist for The New York Times.

“With the presidential races at a fever pitch, there is no better time to have a political analyst like Bill Kristol on campus,” said UC President, Dr. Edwin Welch. “Mr. Kristol has spent his entire life in politics. He began volunteering for political campaigns at the age of 12. He was a professor of politics and government studies at Penn and Harvard. He will crystallize the current political spectrum for our community.”

Before starting The Weekly Standard in 1995, Mr. Kristol led the Project for the Republican Future, where he helped shape the strategy that produced the 1994 Republican Congressional victory. Prior to that, Mr. Kristol served as chief of staff to vice president Dan Quayle during the Bush administration, and to Secretary of Education William Bennett under President Reagan. Before coming to Washington in 1985, Mr. Kristol taught politics at the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government.

Mr. Kristol recently co-authored The New York Times bestseller, The War Over Iraq: America's Mission and Saddam's Tyranny.
