Unity Productions to Premiere “The Sultan and the Saint” at UC

10/12/2017 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Charleston, WV – Unity Productions Foundation will hold its Charleston premiere of “The Sultan and the Saint” at the University of Charleston, October 12th at 7:00 p.m. The event is free and open to the public.

“The Sultan and the Saint” features dramatic reenactments and interviews with scholars in telling the story of the meeting between Saint Francis of Assisi and the Sultan of Egypt, Al-Malik Al-Kamil, during the Crusades. Narrated by Academy Award winner Jeremy Irons, the film presents the remarkable spiritual exchange between the Sultan and the Saint, and the great risks they took for peace.

On its website, UPF describes the film as “one of the great, lost stories from history. Set in a past period of East-West conflict, it speaks with urgency to our present. Two men of faith, one an itinerant Christian preacher, the other the ruler of a Muslim Empire, bucked a century of war, distrust, and insidious propaganda in a search for mutual respect and common ground.”

The premiere is hosted by Unity Productions Foundation, and is sponsored by the University of Charleston, the Islamic Association of WV and Interfaith Partners.

Unity Productions Foundation (UPF) is a non-profit 501©3 foundation that works to create peace through the media, to empower citizens with greater understanding. UPF films have been viewed by over 150 million people worldwide.
