Why Give to UC?

College is expensive. Tuition only covers part of the cost of a University of Charleston education, and the University relies on private support to close that gap. Ninety percent of our students receive financial aid, and many still struggle to pay tuition, room and board costs.

We need your assistance to help these deserving students have access to a UC  education. Whether you give an unrestricted gift that will go to the area of greatest need, or a specific gift for a program or project, your gift-- large or small -- makes a difference at UC.

A gift to UC is a smart investment.  The University continues to grow and its growth has a direct impact on the city of Charleston and the state of West Virginia.

  • Each year, EMBA classes aided companies in Charleston by providing free business plan consultation.
  • Student organizations, faculty and staff completed 5,098 hours of community service in this year alone.
  • The University employs over 300 faculty and staff and has a $75 million impact on the local economy annually.
  • 73% of alumni stay in West Virginia to live, work and contribute to their communities.
  • More than 50% of pharmacy graduates are working in Appalachia.
  • UC has invested over $100 million in construction projects in the past 13 years.

Our students excel.

  • Within six months of graduation, 95% of UC graduates are either employed or enrolled in graduate school (2007-2009 average).
  • Over half of UC pharmacy graduates are working in Appalachia.
  • 100% of radiologic science majors pass their boards on the first attempt.
  • 100% of nursing majors are employed upon graduation.
  • Over 10% of UC undergraduates are international students (from 34 countries).

You can make your mark. With no direct funding from state or federal government, we depend on support from private donors, foundations and corporations.  Your donations will help UC and its students thrive.

  • Enrollment has hit a 40-year high, with 1,525 students in Fall 2010.  This is a 9% increase over 2009 and a 77% increase in the past 10 years.
  • Over 65% of UC freshmen report that they are the first in their families to attend college.
  • 95% of UC students receive financial aid.
