Application Requirements

PLEASE NOTE: The application deadline for the class starting in January of 2014 has passed.  For the class starting in January of 2015,  we will be using the Central Application Service for Physician Assistants (CASPA), the cycle for admissions will begin in April 2014. 

The University of Charleston PA program requires all Direct Admission applicants to submit completed applications by August 1.   We also require a supplemental application that will be sent once your verified CASPA application has been received.  Early consideration will be given to completed (including supplemental) applications received by July 1. 

Applications are reviewed when all required documents and applicant’s official GRE scores have been submitted and VERIFIED by CASPA.  It is up to the applicant to review and confirm completion of the application online through the CASPA system.

All Direct Admission applicants will be required to provide the following completed application materials:

  • Program Application completed through CASPA, the applicant will include:
    • Personal Narrative
    • Work and Health Care Experience History
    • Social Engagement History
     
  • Two References:  (Instructions for obtaining reference letters is available in the online CASPA application portal. It is strongly recommended that at least one be from a physician or physician assistant.) Two References must be received and verified by CASPA by the application deadline.
  • Transcripts: Direct Admission applicants must provide official college transcripts through CASPA from all institutions of higher education attended, these transcripts will be "verified" by CASPA.
All Fast Track applications will be handled through the UC PA program online application system.  The application cycle will be from February 1 to June 30. Applicants are encouraged to apply following their Freshman or Sophomore years, but may apply at any time during their studies at the University of Charleston.  All Fast Track applicants will be required to provide the following completed application materials:
  • Program Application completed through the UC online application portal, the applicant will include:
    • Personal Narrative
    • Work and Health Care Experience History
    • Social Engagement History
     
  • Two References: (Instructions for obtaining reference letters is available in the online UC application portal). It is strongly recommended that at least one be from a physician or physician assistant.  At least two letters must be received by the application deadline.

Standardized Test Scores  
  • The Graduate Record Examination (GRE) official score is required for all Direct Admission applicants, we do not waive this requirement.  We strongly encourage all applicants to take the GRE by early July to ensure that the official scores are received by CASPA by our deadline of August 1.  All test scores are sent directly to CASPA by ETS.  If you are re-applying, you must also request ETS to send official scores again for all future applications. An aggregate score (Verbal + Quantitative) must be at least 292 and a GRE writing score of at least 3.0 are required in order to consider an application.  (Direct Admission applicants ONLY).
  • PA Fast Track applicants are not required to take the GRE as a part of their application. However, they will be required to take the GRE  prior to matriculating into the Physician Assistant Program as a condition of their acceptance if admitted. Fast Track students must have an aggregate (Verbal + Quantitative) score of at least 292 and a GRE writing score of at least 3.0 to maintain their seat in the UC PA program. 
  • SAT or ACT report must be sent directly to UC (PA Fast Track applicants ONLY).
  • All students for whom English is a second language must submit a copy of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum score of 550 for the paper based test (PBT) and 80 for the internet based test (IBT). Alternatively, this requirement can be met for UC students through evaluation and recommendation by the University of Charleston's Director of International & ESL Programs.
 
Foreign Student Applicants
 

Applications will not be considered until all application materials have been received by the PA program admissions coordinator. All application requirements MUST be received prior to the application deadline.
