University of Charleston School of Pharmacy offers ExRx summer camp

Charleston, WV – Over fifty high school and college undergraduate students from various surrounding states will attend the 2017 ExRx (Experience Pharmacy) Bootcamp at the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy (UCSOP). The camp runs from Tuesday, June 20 through Friday, June 23, 2017. This year, UCSOP joins forces with the Physician Assistant Program in its quest to immerse students interested in health sciences into both pharmacy and physician assistant professions.

The intense four-day schedule of activities is led by the expertise of UCSOP and Physician Assistant Program faculty and staff.  Throughout Bootcamp, students will have hands-on immersive experiences in the UCSOP IV lab, compounding lab and simulation lab. Staff will also provide instruction in courses such as Pharmacy 101, Physician Assistant 101 and History of Medicine. In addition, participants will not only receive advice on preparing and applying for college and pharmacy school, but will have the opportunity to learn about various career paths by partaking in activities such as career roundtables and mock interviews.

Evening activities will include a scavenger hunt, ice cream social, a service project, and s’mores on the riverbank.

Jamie Bero, UCSOP Director of Student Affairs says, “UCSOP faculty and staff are honored to provide the platform for valuable one-on-one interaction and instruction for those eager to learn about a career in pharmacy. It is a rewarding experience for not only the campers, but for the faculty and staff, too.”

ExRx Bootcamp is one of several community outreach and STEM-based activities that UCSOP is involved with this summer.
