University of Charleston School of Pharmacy Partners with Cox Family Pharmacy, Hosts Diabetes Awareness Day Event

Charleston, WV – On Monday, November 27, 2017, University of Charleston School of Pharmacy (UCSOP) will partner with Cox Family Pharmacy in Parkersburg, West Virginia to host an event in honor of Diabetes Awareness Month. The event will run from 8:30am-12:30pm and is open to the public.

Representatives from UCSOP and Cox Family Pharmacy will be providing general diabetes information and will conduct diabetes risk assessment tests, which consist of a serious of seven questions delving into telling items such as family history, high blood pressure history, age, etc.  The pharmacists will also be discussing meal planning and provide demonstrations using food models and sample meals.

“According to the West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, 1 in 7 West Virginia adults have been diagnosed with diabetes, which tags our state with having the second largest diabetes population in the country,” said Dr. Michelle Easton, UCSOP Dean. “Registered pharmacists can play a crucial role in not only helping to identify those at risk for diabetes, but educating, monitoring and managing diabetes medication plans for patients. Such guidance can have a significant impact on the health of a community.”

Cox Family Pharmacy is located at 2012 Garfield Ave, Parkersburg, WV 26101.
