University of Charleston School of Pharmacy Celebrates American Pharmacists Month
(Charleston, WV) – Throughout October, the University of Charleston School of Pharmacy (UCSOP) will be celebrating American Pharmacists Month. Each year the American Pharmacist Association (APhA) designates October as a time to highlight and celebrate the contributions pharmacists make to healthcare.
This year, UCSOP faculty and students have a variety of activities planned that span the course of the month. A sampling of the events include health fairs, tweet-a-thons to support awareness of breast cancer and mental health, an Experience Pharmacy Open House event, a breast cancer health and awareness presentation, and participation in a Remote Access Medical Clinic.
Month-long events include: weekly blog posts pertinent to the history of pharmacy, Generation Rx presentations where over 60 student pharmacists will educate over 500 third graders in 25 classrooms throughout Kanawha County about prescription drug misuse, and participation in counseling and outreach at the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department’s Harm Reduction and Syringe Exchange Program.
“American Pharmacists Month is an exciting time at UCSOP,” stated Dr. Michelle Easton, UCSOP Dean. “We are proud to spend the month focusing the accomplishments of pharmacists and educating the public and other healthcare professionals about pharmacists' expanding and vital role in healthcare.”
