University of Charleston Announces New Employees and Member of Advisory Committee

Charleston, WV –Dr. Candace Layne is the new Director of Counseling and Outreach Services. Layne has a Doctorate of Educational Leadership and certifications as an approved license professional supervisor (ALPS) and is a licensed professional counselor in West Virginia.   Her experience includes serving as a counselor in private practice, foster care, community mental health and residential mental health, school based counseling in K-12 and most recently served as the counselor in the Counseling Center at Mountwest Community and Technical College in Huntington, WV. Layne will provide counseling and other resources to UC students.

Eric Smith is the new UC Director of the Department of Safety and Security. Smith recently retired with the rank of sergeant from the Charleston Police Department after 21 years, where he served on the patrol division, Special Enforcement Unit and the detective bureau. Smith will oversee all members of the UC department responsible for campus safety, parking enforcement, emergency notifications, and the safety and security of students, faculty, staff and visitors on campus. He will also work with the Office of Student Leadership and Engagement to address issues related to both residential and commuter students.

The newest member of the UC Business Advisory Committee for the School of Business and Leadership is David Rosier, General Manager of Administration at Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia, Inc. Rosier has been with Toyota for 15 years, during which he has held several leadership positions. He is a graduate of Findlay College in Findlay Ohio, and is currently pursuing his M.S. in Strategic Leadership from UC.
