UC granted initial accreditation for ADN program
Charleston, WV - The University of Charleston’s Capito Department of Nursing has received initial accreditation of its nontraditional, weekend Associate Degree Nursing program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
The new program, (already offered at the university’s Beckley location), is a weekend program designed for working adults who wish to pursue a nursing career.
The accreditation affirms that the program meets the ACEN standards and requirements of the Institute of Medicine (IOM), ensuring program graduates are ready to enter the workplace.
“Graduates of our programs will now be more competitive in the job market due to the fact that most employers prefer to hire nurses who have attended a university with national nursing accreditation,” said Dr. Pamela Alderman, Dean of the Bert Bradford School of Health Sciences at UC. “Not only does this provide our graduates with the skill-sets to meet the demands of health care agencies, it also improves the graduates’ marketability immediately upon graduation.”
The next evaluation for the program will not be until the fall of 2023.
