UC Students Move on to WV Statewide Business Plan Semifinals
Twelve University of Charleston students have been named as semifinalists in the West Virginia Statewide Collegiate Business Plan Competition. UC had 81 of the 201 statewide entries in the competition – nearly four times the number of entries from any other school – and has twelve of the 30 semifinalists.
The semifinalists will compete in three categories – Hospitality & Tourism (UC has 6 of the ten entries), Lifestyle & Innovation (UC has one entry), and, Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM), where UC has five of the ten entries.
UC students who entered the Competition ranged from freshmen to doctoral students.
The goal of the annual West Virginia Collegiate Business Plan Competition is to provide students with the education, skills, contacts and motivation to create a viable, start-up company in West Virginia. Grand prize packages are awarded to the top team in each of three categories, and includes a $10,000 cash prize, accounting, legal and virtual or physical incubator space.
The teams will compete in the semifinal round November 16 at the Days Inn Conference Center in Flatwoods, WV.
