The University of Charleston men’s soccer team has come a long way since the devastating 0-17 season in 2007. Under second year head coach Chad Duernberger, UC has managed to get back on the national level in 2009 with an overall record of 8-2 (4-0 WVIAC). The Golden Eagles are moving forward with a 3-game win streak going into a nonconference match at Ohio Dominican (7:00 pm) Wednesday night. “This is a great achievement solely given to the boys’ hard work and discipline day in and day out. They have earned it thus far, but there is still a lot of soccer to be played,” Coach Duernberger said. “We have a very important week ahead of us that will determine just how hungry we really are (Two very tough opponents in Ohio Dominican and Wheeling Jesuit).” The University of Charleston men’s soccer program has not been in the national rankings since the 2000 season. The Golden Eagles also moved up in the region to #3 behind Millersville and Slippery Rock. Charleston will play home (Schoenbaum Stadium) again on Saturday against WVIAC opponent Wheeling Jesuit at 6 pm.
