UC Punches Ticket For D-II Men's Soccer Elite Eight With 3-2 Win At Slippery Rock
11/15/2009

(SLIPPERY ROCK, PA)-Darko Karamatic's 82nd minute goal lifted Charleston (19-3-0) to a 3-2 victory over Slippery Rock (18-4-1) and into the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Tournament's Elite Eight.

Slippery Rock keeper Greg Blum stopped Karamatic's initial shot, but the Golden Eagle sophomore would not be denied on the rebound as he slammed home the eventual game-winner.

The Rock grabbed a quick lead in the contest, as Jeremy Deighton scored on a header in the ninth minute.  Drew DeAngelo answered for UC as he found the top right corner off an assist by Craig Cantor.

A 58th minute penalty kick by Kenneth Fultz allowed Slippery Rock to enjoy a brief 2-1 lead.  However, WVIAC Freshman of the Year Rob Vincent blasted one home from 25 yards away.  Dion Peters assisted on the game-tying goal in the 66th minute.

Charleston held a 17-12 edge in shots as they avenged a 2-1 regular season loss at the hands of Slippery Rock.  UC's advantage in shots on goal was 7-5.  Sean Teepen earned the victory in goal and recorded three saves for the Golden Eagles.  Blum had four stops for Slippery Rock.

UC will face Lewis (IL) in the national quarterfinals next Saturday or Sunday.  The Flyers (15-3-2) shocked #2 Drury 1-0 in the Great Lakes Region championship match.  The site and time of the round of eight contest will be announced early this week.
